If completed on a timely basis, DFC has the potential to be a game- changer not just for Indian Railways, but the trade and economics of the country. It will reduce the overall logistics cost of trade between the hinterland and gateway ports, making India a favourable destination for EXIM trade. The Youth Olympic Games (YOG) is an international multi- sport event organized by the International Olympic Committee. The games are held every four years in staggered summer and winter events consistent with the current Olympic Games format. The first summer version was held in Singapore from 1. August 2. 01. 0 while the first winter version was held in Innsbruck, Austria from 1. January 2. 01. 2.[1] The age limitation of the athletes is 1. The idea of such an event was introduced by Johann Rosenzopf from Austria in 1. On 6 July 2. 00. 7, International Olympic Committee (IOC) members at the 1. IOC session in Guatemala City approved the creation of a youth version of the Olympic Games, with the intention of sharing the costs of hosting the event between the IOC and the host city, whereas the traveling costs of athletes and coaches were to be paid by the IOC. These Games will also feature cultural exchange programs and opportunities for participants to meet Olympic athletes. Several other Olympic events for youth, like the European Youth Olympic Festival held every other year with summer and winter versions, and the Australian Youth Olympic Festival, have proven successful. The Youth Games are modelled after these sporting events.[3] The YOG are also a successor to the discontinued World Youth Games. The director of “The Great Beauty” and “This Must Be the Place,” Paolo Sorrentino returns to screens with “Youth.” Stepping further into English-language filmmaking, the helmer arrives with a star-studded cast to. List of Youth Olympic Games. In early November 2007, Athens, Bangkok, Singapore, Moscow, and Turin were selected by the IOC as the five candidate cities to host the inaugural Youth Olympic Games. Summer Youth Olympic Games of Buenos Aires. The next Winter YOG to take place will be the 2. Winter Youth Olympic Games of Lausanne. History[edit]The concept of the Youth Olympic Games came from Austrian industrial manager Johann Rosenzopf in 1. This was in response to growing global concerns about childhood obesity and the dropping participation of youth in sport activities, especially amongst youth in developed nations. It was further recognized that a youth version of the Olympic Games would help foster participations in the Olympic Games.[8] Despite these reasons for having an Olympic event for young people, the IOC's response of holding a purely sporting event was negative. IOC delegates wanted the event to be as much about cultural education and exchange as it was about sports, which is why the Culture and Education Program (CEP) was developed as a component of each celebration of the Games. Jacques Rogge, IOC President, formally announced plans for the Youth Olympic Games at the 1. IOC session in Guatemala City on 6 July 2. There are several goals for the YOG, and four of them include bringing together the world's best young athletes, offering an introduction into Olympism, innovating in educating and debating Olympic values.[1. The city of Singapore was announced as the host of the inaugural Summer Youth Olympics on 2. February 2. 00. 8.[1. On 1. 2 December 2. IOC announced that Innsbruck, host of the 1. Winter Olympics, would be the host of the inaugural Winter Youth Olympics in 2. Requirements of host cities[edit]The scale of the Youth Olympic Games is smaller than that of the Olympics, which is intentional and allows for smaller cities to host an Olympic event. Potential host cities are required to keep all events within the same city and no new sports venues should be built.[1. Exceptions to this building moratorium include a media center, amphitheater facilities for classes and workshops, and a village for coaches and athletes.[1. This village is to be the heart of the Games for the athletes, and the hub of activity.[1. No new or unique transportation systems are required as all athletes and coaches will be transported by shuttles.[1. According to bid procedures, the track and field stadium for the opening and closing ceremonies must hold 1. Summer editions).[1. Financing[edit]The original estimated costs for running the Games were US$3. Summer and $1. 5 million to $2. Winter Games, these costs do not include infrastructure improvements for venue construction. The IOC has stipulated that costs for infrastructure and venues is to be paid by the host city.[1. The IOC will pay travel costs to the host city and room and board for the athletes and judges, estimated at $1. The funding will come from IOC funds and not revenues. The budgets for the final two bids for the inaugural Summer Games came in at $9. The cost of the first games in Singapore escalated to an estimated S$3. Sponsors have been slow to sign on for the YOG, due to the fact that it is a new initiative and corporations are not sure what level of exposure they will get.[1. The budget for the inaugural Winter Games to be held in Innsbruck has been estimated at $2. Participation[edit]Over 2. Youth Summer Olympics.[2. Participants are placed in the following age groups: 1. The athlete's age is determined by how old he or she is by 3. December of the year they are participating in the YOG.[1. Qualification to participate in the Youth Olympics is determined by the IOC in conjunction with the International Sport Federations (ISF) for the various sports on the program.[1. To ensure that all nations are represented at the YOG the IOC instituted the concept of Universality Places. A certain number of spots in each event are to be left open for athletes from under- represented nations regardless of qualifying marks. This is to ensure that every nation will be able to send at least four athletes to each Youth Olympic Games.[1. For team tournaments one team per continent will be allowed to compete along with a sixth team either representing the host nation or as proposed by the IF with IOC approval. There is a cap of two teams (one boys' and one girls') per nation.[1. Finally, no nation may enter more than 7. The sports contested at the Youth Games are the same as those scheduled for the traditional Games, but with some adaptations, and a limited number of disciplines and events.[2. For example, in the aquatics sport the IOC decided to include diving and swimming events but excluded synchronized swimming and water polo.[2. Some of the sports have been modified for the Games. The basketball competition uses the 3x. The hockey was introduced as outdoor format in 2. The cycling disciplines are mountain bike, BMX, and road, while track cycling has been left off the schedule.[2. Other youth- driven sports may eventually be contested if backed by international sports federations. In November 2. 00. The Winter Youth Games will feature seven sports. Hockey will have not only a men's and women's tournament but also an individual skills challenge.[2. In luge, figure skating and short track speed skating there will be mixed NOC events that will allow athletes from various countries to compete together in teams. Alpine and cross- country skiing will have events in which men and women will compete on mixed- gendered teams.[2. Culture and education[edit]Education and culture are also key components for the Youth edition. Not only does the education/culture aspect apply to athletes and participants, but also youth around the world and inhabitants of the host city and surrounding regions. To this end a Culture and Education Program (CEP) will be featured at each Games.[8] The first CEP at the 2. Singapore Games featured events that fostered cooperation amongst athletes of different nations. It had classes on topics ranging from health and fitness to the environment and career planning. Local students from Singapore made booths at the World Culture Village that represented each of the 2. National Olympic Committee. The Chat with Champions sessions were the most popular portion of the program.[8] Participants were invited to hear inspirational talks given by former and current Olympic athletes.[8]Also part of the CEP are the Young Ambassadors Programme, Young Reporters Programme and Athlete Role Models.[2. Under the Young Ambassadors Programme, a group of youths aged 1. NOCs to help promote the YOG in their regions and communities, and encourage the athletes to participate in the CEP programmes. The Young Reporters Programme[2. YOG. Young Reporters, between the ages of 1. Continental Associations of National Olympic Committees and will represent each of the five continents. Acting as mentors to help support and advise young Olympians are the Athlete Role Models, who are typically active or recently retired Olympians nominated by the IFs, such as Japanese wrestler Kaori Icho,[3. Italian Simone Farina[3. Namibian Frank Fredericks.[3. Emphasis on exchange goes beyond the CEP. Another unique feature of the Youth Olympic Games are mixed- gender and mixed- national teams. Triathlon relays, fencing, table tennis, archery and mixed swimming relays are a few of the sports in which athletes from different nations and mixed genders can compete together.[8] YOG organizers are also using social media such as Facebook, Flikr, and Twitter as key platforms for engaging young athletes before, during, and after each celebration of the Games.[8] Multi- lingual, multi- cultural, and multi- age requirements are the targets of the program, which stress the themes of "Learning to know, learning to be, learning to do, and learning to live together". This Christian teen activity needs to take place in a large enclosed area or outside. You will need several small soft balls. You may need to wrap the ball in tap to make it heavy enough to fly through the air. Divide you group into two teams and give each team half of the balls. Divide the area into two halves with tap or spray the grass with a paint line. If you are in a gym, simply have each team on half the court. Each team must stay on their side. Christian Icebreaker Games for Kids. Buzz Bomb Balloon. To begin this Christian children’s icebreaker game, have the children stand in a large circle. Give each child a balloon that is not inflated. Place a target in the middle of the circle – a large piece of colored construction works well or you can simple put a circle on the floor with masking tape. The children should be about ten feet away from the target. Have each child blow up the balloon and hold it shut. Either give the children different colors or write their initials on the balloons with permanent markers so you can tell who gets closest to the target. When the leader yells, “Go!†the children are to let go of their balloons and see whose balloon lands closest to the target. Use this game for teams by having the two teams face each other and put the target between them. Frisbee Toss. A simple, but fun icebreaker game for children, you will need two hula hoops and six Frisbees. You can either suspend the hula hoops from the ceiling or have some volunteer adults hold them up in the air. Divide your group into teams and have each player take a turn with three chances to toss the Frisbee through the hula hoop. The team with the most points at the end of a specific time wins. Cotton Ball Scoop. A game suitable for teams or for using with two volunteers, this children’s church ice breaker provides a great deal of fun. You will need two large bowls filled with cotton, two empty bowls, two blindfolds, and two spoons. The children are given 3. Since the cotton balls are so light, many times the participants think they have cotton balls in their spoons when they are really empty. If you use it as a team game, the winning team is the one with the most cotton balls. This icebreaker can also be used at the beginning and end of a Bible class for lesson review. If I Were. One great icebreaker game that works well with Christian groups is If I Were. The group simply takes turns saying statements that begin with “If I were . For example, “If I were a flower, I would be a daisy, because it is simple and pretty.†Some other categories are, “If I were a . President, song, movie, book, car, airline, city, country, etc.†For younger children, it might be best to give the prompt and let them finish the statement. Sometimes you get some really funny statements that will make everyone laugh. Pass the Present. An excellent game for any age, this Christian icebreaker game is fun and has a prize at the end. Have the players either sit or stand in a circle. You will need a paper wrapped package and a way to play music. The goal of the game is not to have the present when the music stops. To prepare for this fun game, you need to choose an age appropriate prize and wrap it in multiple layers of paper. You can use as many layers as you wish. The more layers of paper you have, the longer the game will last. On each paper, write a funny action or activity. The person who has the package when the music stops must remove one layer of paper and do the action or activity. After they have finished, the music starts again and the present keeps going around the circle. The person who unwraps the last layer keeps the gift. We have listed some activity suggestions below to write on the paper layers, or you can choose your own: Sing a song. Do a dance. Tell a joke. Make a funny face. Pat your head while rubbing your stomach Christian Icebreaker Questions. The Source for Youth Ministry. If you’ve ever been to a church carnival or festival that had a cool cardboard maze, you’ve no doubt seen how much fun the kids had while going through it. But you were also painfully aware of the many hours put into the project. Well, The Maze of Life lets you have just as much fun…with a fraction of the time invested during set up. Here’s what you do. First, locate a roll of butcher paper. The Children’s Pastor can probably loan you a roll (of an ugly color) from her stash. Next, find as many blindfolds as you have students. Now, rearrange your youth room a bit, or use a different part of the church, like a multipurpose room perhaps. Cocktail party in the Youth Group with some games and cocktails. At each station you are confronted with different life situations, where you have to make a decision. It is important to know that all your decisions have consequences for your “life”.. Games. Russia's leading youth sports Organisation which devel- ops student sport. Roll out the paper on the floor in a “maze- like†pattern that has at least 4- 6 T- intersections. Make sure to tape it down; duct tape works well.) At each intersection, have one of directions leading to a dead end, or a couch, or a wall, while the other direction heads off towards the finish line. Place an adult leader at each T- intersection. When a blindfolded student comes to that T- intersection, the adult leader asks him/her a True/False question, then says, “If you think it’s false, go left, but if you think it’s true, go right.†(Make sure to connect the correct answer with the correct route!). Here’s the good thing: if you’ve set the maze up correctly, it won’t be long before a student who guessed wrong will know he/she is wrong, and can go back the way he/she came. Eventually, everyone can make it to the end. Here are a few of the True/False questions we used. Slugs do not have noses. False: they actually have four!). The Mona Lisa does not have eyebrows. True: it was fashionable to shave them off back then!). Most Eskimos have refrigerators. True: it keeps their food from freezing.). An ostrich’s eye is bigger than its brain. True.). 5. Taphephobia is the fear of losing your teeth. False: it’s the fear of being buried alive.). The letter “T†is the second most common letter used in the English language. True.). 7. Thomas Edison, who invented the light bulb, was afraid of the dark. True.). Here are some more things you can do to make the Maze of Life more interesting. Have someone smack a Styrofoam noodle against the floor as kids crawl by…to scare them. Have a stretch of the maze run along a wall where volunteers are positioned to throw balls at kids crawling by. Smear a little peanut butter (or something like it) on the butcher paper. It will horrify the kids at first. Play funky music in the background over the PA system to confuse the kids. Make the maze go around objects or under tables. Use what you have! Spiritual Application (Optional)You can use John 1. God – the voice of truth. Spend some time asking them if they know how to distinguish God’s voice in a world of lies. Remember, Satan is very tricky. He wants to steer us down the wrong paths in life by lying to us about stuff like image, drugs/alcohol, and sex. To know the voice of truth, you have to be in a relationship with God through His Son Jesus. Remember, life is just like the maze sometimes; you’ll make a wrong turn here and there. When that happens, we must remember to seek God’s truth to get back on the right track. Youth Ministry Ideas had ideas from youth leaders to youth leaders.
